2015 Volunteer Events

What a great year! 2015 was a year full of success and giving back to our community through the MHC REAL Leaders volunteer work. Please see a summary of our volunteer efforts below:

February 20th – Grassy Waters Preserve. Grassy Waters Preserve serves as the freshwater supply for the City of West Palm Beach, and the towns of South Palm Beach and Palm Beach Island. It remains a pristine remnant of the once great Everglades system, in great part to those who work to protect it. REAL Leaders got their hands dirty outside planting shrubs along the water’s edge. May 22nd – Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center. Vinceremos helps disabled children and adults by working with therapy horses and strengthen posture, improve motor function, increase the ability to concentrate, enhance communication and social skills, and gain a greater sense of self-esteem and accomplishment. We helped with cleaning the grounds and washing/grooming the horses. CLICK HERE for more details about the organization.

July 31st – Urban Youth Impact. Urban Youth Impact serves the West Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, and Boynton Beach areas to help at-risk children through enrichment programs and job-readiness training. Through its core programs, they serve 270 youths each week. Our REAL Leaders helped in a variety of areas including playing with the kids in summer camp, assisting with clerical duties, and organizing back to school supplies. November/December – Spreading Holiday Cheer. We cap off our year of volunteer events with some of our favorites including the Big Heart Brigade and Christ Fellowship’s Thanksgiving Feast where more than 45,000 meals are prepared and distributed, the Urban League of Palm Beach County‘s Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway where boxes of everything a family needs to make a Thanksgiving meal are given to needy ones in the community, and the Adopt-a-Family’s Adopter and Santa Shoppe program where we shop for a families wish list items and assist in a holiday party for children and families.
