2016 Volunteer Events

We had a busy 2016, full of giving back. Please see a summary of our volunteer efforts below:

January 29th – Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County. For over 25 years the Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County has been the voice of the homeless advocating for their rights and a place they can call home. MHC REAL Leaders were happy to sponsor and serve lunch for the 70 homeless men and women that stay at the Senator Philip D. Lewis Center. The group also spent some time organizing items in their retail donation center. Donations made to the Homeless Coalition are not resold, but instead available at no cost to those in their program. April 22nd – Panther Ridge Conservation Center. Panther Ridge is a non-profit conservation center that provides a home, haven and hope for some of the world’s most majestic and endangered cats. Most of these cats were rescued from threatening situations in which they had been abused, abandoned or neglected. The facilities are custom-built, providing the cats with native-like habitats and ample room to roam. Our REAL Leaders helped with painting and cleaning the facilities and had a great time learning about all of the big cats that call Panther Ridge home. CLICK HERE to learn how you can help.

June 10th – Red Cross Home Fire Campaign. The American Red Cross has a nationwide Home Fire Campaign that works to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by home fires. Smoke alarm installation is critical to this cause. Our group installed and checked fire detectors in a mobile home park in Palm Springs. Volunteers were treated to a light breakfast during orientation and dispersed amongst the community to ensure it’s residents were safe with properly installed fire detectors. November/December – Spreading Holiday Cheer. Some of our favorite events have been during this time of year. We were happy to participate in the Big Heart Brigade and Christ Fellowship’s Thanksgiving Feast where more than 45,000 meals are prepared and distributed, the Urban League of Palm Beach County‘s Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway where boxes of everything a family needs to make a Thanksgiving meal are given to needy ones in the community, and the Adopt-a-Family’s Adopter and Santa Shoppe program where we shop for a families wish list items and assist in a holiday party for children and families.
