Since 1992 The Big Heart Brigade volunteers have prepped close to 2 million Thanksgiving dinners for less fortunate ones in our community. This years massive undertaking served a traditional turkey dinner for over 45,000 people and was fueled by 4,000 volunteers. The volunteers cook, package and deliver the meals to needy ones, many in Pahokee and Belle Glade, on Thanksgiving Day.
NAI/Merin Hunter Codman’s REAL Leaders have enjoyed volunteering for the past several years. This year over 20 REAL Leaders donned their red shirts to assist in the breakdown of the site that was behind Fire Station #3 on Northlake Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens. In past years, our team has worked as an assembly line to package the food in to-go containers. This years effort required a little more elbow grease to clean the gallon tubs all the fixings were stored in and get the site cleared out.
Volunteer spots are listed online in advance and fill up fast. Once our team started helping, it became a tradition and an MHC volunteer event favorite. Click here for more details on this effort and how you can make it part of your Thanksgiving tradition too.
